Poem #731

An extra poem since it's a leap year! :)

Untouchable, staying whole, unbreakable,
Never falling apart even when life,
Brings change, hurt, and unkindness.
Remaining strong every moment,
Outside forces have no power here.
Keeping yourself together because,
Each day presents a new challenge to face.
Never giving in to the pain or sorrow.

Poem #730

A bird that is caged,
Doesn’t have room to fly,
As it beats its wings,
And longs for the sky.

During its desperate attempts,
It becomes quite aware,
Of its longing to escape,
And take in the fresh air.

Nature and family,
Lie out of its reach.
These strong, iron bars,
Are impossible to breach.

It begins to tire,
And finally gives in,
But soon it discovers,
The strength that’s within.

It rests on the ground,
And begins to sing,
Not of its sorrow,
But of the spring.

It thinks of the life,
That it had once known,
And for a moment,
Feels like its not so alone.

That love and that happiness,
Will always stay, and,
It knows it can hang on,
For one more day.

Nothing can stop it,
Break its spirit apart,
As long as it sings,
Of the love in its heart.

Poem #729

                 You can see me,

                                                          hear me, feel me,

but I am no longer here.

Poem #728

I grew up with you.
We are family; not siblings,
But it always felt that way.

We told each other everything,
We were always there for everything.
We used to know everything.

Now there are so many things that you don’t know,
So many things I want to say,
But I feel like I can’t.

I am still here for you
But I find myself wondering,
If you feel the same way.

I know you love me. I love you too.
I trust you with all my heart,
And I need your help more than ever before.

But I can’t get the words out.

Poem #727

Four years ago, I ran.
Pushed the pain and the happiness,
The good and the bad,
The memories and the nightmares,
Behind me, and tried to escape.
As I closed the door to my rejected self,
I opened the door to the outside world,
And took off, no destination in mind.
The open road lay ahead,
My feet pounded hard against the ground,
And my body ached,
As it released, with each ragged breath,
Moment after moment of my life.
Until nothing was left.
But my footsteps slowed, came to a stop,
And everything rushed back toward me,
Running at an equal speed,
Hitting me with a such a force,
That I was knocked to the ground,
And crumpled on the side of the road.
I couldn’t escape, couldn’t run,
So I lay there,
Taking it all back in,
And releasing it again,
Letting it run down my cheeks.
I never thought I would get up.
But eventually I staggered to my feet,
And walked back down that road,
Damaged, weakened, but still going.
And somehow, I felt lighter,
The pain was still there, only it was softer.
But this moment, this experience,
Rather than help, as I thought it had,
Left me even more exposed,
Even more unprepared for what lay ahead.
I hadn’t been given time to repair,
To regain and build my strength.
And this heavier, inescapable load,
Fell on the fragile, vulnerable shell.
The only thing that was left.
It did not cry out,
It did not speak up,
And this time, it could not run.

Poem #726

He is quiet, shy, reserved, private,
But if you would only ask him what’s wrong,
He would tell you everything,
And maybe then he could find a reason to go on.

Poem #725

Cold embrace of stolen liberty,
It grasps him tight, ensnares his heart.
He beats his wings against the bars,
Made of iron, dark as night.

Every day with wings spread wide,
Every day he cried and cried.

His voice calls out in the silent expanse,
With aching tone and melodious grief.
But faith and hope always prevail,
In faint echoes of the joy wrenched from this plight.

Every day with wings spread wide,
Every day he tried and tried.

His song never fails, not once is it lost,
Nor does it fade into hardhearted emptiness.
Songs of hope, of love, of trust.
Fight for freedom. Find the light.

Every day with wings spread wide,
The chains of sorrow he defied.

Day to night find strength inside,
And forever with you I’ll abide.
My darling creature, with wings spread wide,
On the wind you soon will ride.

Every day with wings spread wide,
Forever in peace and sovereignty glide.
